Description From Owner:
- The name was given to his estate by Loyalist John Saunders (1745-1834) of Virginia who tried to emulate his success in Virginia as a major landholder.
- The Barony, which he built in 1795 was a copy of his Virginia mansion except that it was constructed of wood rather than brick.
- Saunders acquired 2,000 hectares of land and for a time was Chief Justice of New Brunswick. Following the death of his son John Simcoe Saunders (1795-1878), the estate was sold.
