Description From Owner:
- First shown on a 1685 map as Maktopstik, Micmac for 'big black rock.'
- On later maps as Pointe Memchigan, Pte de Techeniquet and Tesheniket Point.
- In 1845 it was named Black Point by Henry Wolsey Bayfield (1795-1885), Admiralty Surveyor of the Great Lakes, who also surveyed the coastlines of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island during the 1840s and 1850s.
