Description From Owner:
- The place was first named Esginoo o putich, or Eskinwobudich, Micmac for 'lookout place.' It appears on a 1688 map as Skinnobundiche.
- After the capture of Louisbourg in 1758, Col. James Murray (17211794) was ordered to destroy all Acadian settlements in the Miramichi area.
- He subsequently reported: 'On the evening of the 17th (September) in obedience to instructions embarked the troops, having two days hunted all around us for the Indians and Acadians to no purpose, we destroyed their provisions, wigwams and houses.
- The church, a very handsome one built with stone, did not escape.' The church was the first stone-built church in the province.
- . Until 1905 Burnt Church post office was at New Jersey, 3.5 km NW on Route 11 and Church Point post office was at Burnt Church.
