- New Canaan is 37 km W of Moncton and takes its name from the biblical designation for Israel prior to its conquest by the Hebrews.
- In July of 1930, the Al & G. Barnes Circus train, en route to Charlottetown from Newcastle, wrecked here killing four people and injuring 17 others.
- A broken truck arch bar on one of the cars caused nine of the 29 cars to derail. The circus skipped the Charlottetown engagement but opened in Moncton a few days later.
