Description From Owner:
- Barn Marsh Island - Barn Marsh Island Beach extends the entire 6 km length of the island.
- It is accessible from the Cape Enrage lighthouse property between tides. By arrangement, guides are available for the four-hour hike along the Barn Marsh Island Trail.
- Cape Enrage...The name is French for 'cape of rage,' descriptive of stormy conditions that often prevail in the area exacerbated by a ledge of rock that creates rough seas in high winds.
- The Micmac called the place Tejeegoochk, 'sail shaped.' The name first appears on a 1686 map as C. Aragé, a 1711 map as C. Race and a 1731 map as C. Anrooshia.
- By 1755 a map showed it as C. Enrage, a 1757 map as Cape Orage and a 1771 map as Cape Roshea.
- The place was also called Cape Rosier, Cape Rosear, Cape Rosheau and Rocher Bay.
- The active lighthouse was established in 1848 at 650 Cape Enrage Road and perches atop 46-metre (150-foot) cliffs.
