Description From Owner:
  • The Micmac called the place Winamkeak for 'rough sandy beach,' and Seebeskaadaan for 'carrying over place.'
  • The community and a number of surrounding features are named for Capt. St-Simon who was chased here by the English in 1760.
  • St-Simon and his crew wintered near here and in the spring he sailed for France leaving most of his crew as the first settlers of Caraquet.
  • With permission from 'New Brunswick Place Names' David E. Scott 2009
