  • Jack Tars Cove : The place is named for John Tar, who was employed by John Faxon at Seal Cove around 1800.
  • Faxon threw Tar out of his home because Tar was drunk. Tar staggered over the cliff at the cove and fell to his death.
  • Southern Cross : Southern Cross is the name of a large rock at the S end of Grand Manan Island which is cross-shaped. In a 1781 book it is called Old Maid and shown on old charts as Statue Rock.
