- The wife of Beverly Robinson Jr., who 64 was a Philippse, was granted land here in 1783 and named the place Clairmont after a family property on the Hudson R. in New York that had been confiscated.
- When the post office opened in 1885 the place was named Douglas, likely to honour Sir Howard Douglas (1776-1861) lieutenant-governor of NB from 1823-1832.
