New Brunswick Tourism Region : Southeastern New Brunswick
Description From Owner:
- Four traditions are associated with the name:
- l) a supply depot of rebels who accompanied Jonathan Eddy in the unsuccessful attempt to capture Fort Cumberland;
- 2) an Acadian fort sacked by the British in the 1750s;
- 3) a supply depot for the builders of the Cumberland Road;
- 4) a name given by sailors because the area was dangerous to navigation.
- It is shown on a 1781 map as Point Gilbert and on an 1859 map as Folly Point. Fort Folly Indian Reserve 27 was established nearby in 1840.
