Description From Owner:
- A settlement was established here in 1689 possibly by Pierre Chesnet, Sieur de Breuil.
- In 1767, 15 French families moved into the area. The name French Village may have been given to the settlement by Saint John merchants Simonds, White and Peabody.
- That was the name used when the post office opened in 1854. After the Loyalists arrived, the French moved to other parts of the province, mainly Madawaska C.
- Hammond River No. 2 (French Village) covered bridge, built in 1912, is on Route 860.
