- The point, no longer marked on the map, extends into the Kennebecasis R and gets its name from gondolas, small dugout canoes or scows used as ferries in the 18th and 19th centuries.
- Gondola Point is shown on maps as early as 1787. The ferry service crossing the river here is the oldest in the province, having operated since 1825.
