- The post office opened as Harding Point in 1950. In 1963 the name was changed to Hardings Point. The place is named for Loyalist William Harding who operated a store, tavern and blacksmith shop here from 1825 to 1841.
- The province operates a year-round toll-free ferry service between Hardings Point off Route 845 and Grand Bay-Westfield on Route 177.
