Description From Owner:
  • The place was first known as French Village when two French families, Robichaud and Muzeroll settled in the 1760s.
  • John Noble bought some land from the French settlers and for a time the place was called Noble Settlement.
  • In 1851 Hardwicke Parish was established, named for Benjamin Hardwick of London, England, who contributed to James Hudson's Church of England missions here and who donated a communion service to the church in nearby Bay du Vin.
  • In 1853 the post office opened as Hardwicke.
