Description From Owner:
- In Micmac the name for heron was Tesunegek and it first appeared on a 1686 map as le Techniguet.
- Later maps called it Tisniguet, Techeniquet, Tcsheniket, Herene, Flat Isle and Isle Platte.
- In 1845 the island was given its present name by Henry Wolsey Bayfield (1795-1885), Admiralty Surveyor of the Great Lakes, who also surveyed the coastlines of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island during the 1840s and 1850s.
