11 BEAUSEJOUR ST |
New Brunswick Tourism Region : Southeastern New Brunswick
Description From Owner:
- The town, the park and the bay all take their names from the river which in Micmac was Pijeboogwek, 'river of the long tideway,' descriptive of the river's long tidal estuary.
- A 1685 map shows the river as Pegibougoi and a 1755 map calls the river Pipibougoy.
- Subsequent maps show the name as: Chishibouwack, Kagibougoet, Pigibogui, Kouchibouguac, Pissabeguake and Kigibouquet. By 1820 the name had become Kouchibouguac and that was the name used when the post office opened here in 1839.
