- The 238 sq km park was created in 1971 , partially to protect the endangered piping plover and to preserve shifting sand dunes and tidal flats.
- It offers beaches, sand dunes, salt marshes and rivers which are home to over 250 species of birds including the second-largest tern colony in North America.
- Sea lions, harbour and grey seals can often be seen here. Waters in the lagoon at Kouchibouguac National Park can reach temperatures of 300 C (860 F) in summer.
