The 'nose' extends into Big Tracadie R. 9 km SW of Tracadie-Sheila and is named for Noel Barnaby, an Indian who lived there and is said to have had a large nose.
Barnabys Nose Brook is nearby and may have been a corruption of Barnaby Noels Brook which gave rise to the folk tale that brought about the naming of Barnabys Nose.
