New Brunswick Tourism Region : Southeastern New Brunswick
Description From Owner:
- The name derives from the Micmac Simooaquik which was spelled by the Acadians as Chimougoui.
- The meaning is not clear but believed to be 'a good place for geese,' and since the area lies on the migratory path for geese and duck, this translation has merit.
- The place was first called Mount Pleasant and when the post office opened in 1853, the first postmaster, Thomas Oulton, named the place Oultons Corner.
- . By 1898 the name had changed to Little Shemogue.
