1633 MOUNTAIN RD |
New Brunswick Tourism Region : Southeastern New Brunswick
Description From Owner:
- The name is descriptive for an optical illusion caused by the formation of the surrounding countryside which makes the slope of the roadway appear to run in the opposite direction from which it does.
- The place was first made popular by Saint John journalists Stuart Trueman, Jack Brayley and John Bruce in 1933 and developed into a major tourist attraction by Muriel Lutes Sikorski.
- Although there are equally or even more amazing 'magnetic hills' in (at least) Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia, this illusion has been energetically promoted and now is surrounded by every conceivable manner of business catering to tourists.
