Description From Owner:
- This was a settlement of New England planters in the mid- 1700s, first known as Peabody, after one of the early land grantees.
- Joshua Mauger (1725-1788), a native of New Jersey, established himself as a merchant in Halifax 1749-1761.
- Later he became the agent for Nova Scotia in London. In 1763 he secured the New Englanders along this stretch of the river, formal title their lands.
- New Brunswick author Esther Clark Wright has written of the importance of Mauger' s contribution in the evolution of the province:
- 'The New England pattern of living would have only a minor factor in New Brunswick but for the Maugerville settlers and their diffusion throughout the province.
- The MaugerVille settlement was successful because it was formed by a closely knit group, with religious ties, and experience in a not dissimilar environment.

- Birthplace of Henry Robert Emmerson (1853-1914), premier from 1897 to 1900.
- Henry Robert Emmerson (1853-1914), was born in Maugerville and served as premier from 1897 to 1900.
- He was a staunch supporter of women's suffrage and in 1899 moved a motion seeking to grant women the full franchise. In a free vote his motion was defeated, receiving only seven votes.
- He resigned as premier to enter the cabinet of Prime Minister Sir Wilfred Laurier and was rewarded with the post of minister of railways and canals, a portfolio that allowed him to disburse patronage through Atlantic Canada.
- He was a drunk and womanizer and president of the Baptist Convention for the Maritime Provinces.
- Following a series of attacks by the Fredericton Daily Gleaner which called him 'an intolerable reprobate,' he was forced to resign in 1907.
