Description From Owner:
- The name honours Nicolas Denys (1598-1688), author géographique et historique des costes de I 'Amérique septentrionale.
- He established a post called Nepisiguit near here in 1652 and moved back after the Fort of St. Pierre he commanded on Cape Breton Island was burned in the winter of 1668-69.
- Denys was an explorer, trader and author and a leading figure in Acadia from 1632 to 1672. He was Governor of part of Acadia from 1654-1680.
- From 1669 until his death he lived at Nepisiguit Bay and is buried near his house, now part of the Gowan Brae Golf Course near Bathurst.
