Description From Owner:
- SW of Nictau Lake: The mountains were named by William F. Ganong in 1899 and 1903 to honour Canadian geologists.
- The names were approved in 1964 by the Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographic Names.
- Mount Bailey for Loring Woart Bailey (1839- 1925), professor of chemistry and natural sciences at University of New Brunswick from 1861 to 1907 who first described the geology of the area in 1864;
- Mount Dawson for George Mercer Dawson (1849-1901) who did geological work in the province; Mount Ells for Robert Wheelock Ells (1845-1911) who did geological work in the 1880s;
- Mount Chalmers for Robert Chalmers (1833-1908), a native of Belledune and geologist with the Geological Survey of Canada;
- Mount Hartt for Charles Frederick Hartt (1840-1878), native of Fredericton, professor of geology at Vassar and Cornell Universities and leader of geological surveys in Brazil from 1875 to 1878;
- Mount Matthew for George F. Matthew (1837-1923), natural scientist.
