Around 1842 Thomas Boies (after whom nearby Boiestown is named) called this place Bloomfield Ridge because of the profusion of wild flowers he found here.
In 1885 when the post office opened here, the first postmaster, John W. Parker, named the place after himself. He transferred the name of Bloomfield Ridge to a community 3 km NE of here.
