- The place was named Patticake after a nearby creek by staff of the European and North American Railway and had a post office of that name from 158 1858-59.
- In 1861 the post office became Passekeag from the Maliseet Petkit for 'bend' in the adjacent Kennebecasis R.
- In 1866 the farming community had a population of 40 families and in 1871 was a station on the European and North American Railway with a population of 150.
- By 1898 when Passekeag was a flag station on the Intercolonial Railway, the population had dwindled to 70.
