- Rivière des Crocs: It is named for Frenchman Jean Cyr who settled here around 1790 and was nicknamed 'Crock' by the Scottish settlers. Three reasons were given for this popular man's nickname:
- l) after his curved moustache which the French spell ''croc' and pronounce 'kro.';
- 2) his use of a hooked (crochet) stick for protection against adversaries;
- 3) as a manufacturer of sugar his customary query to customers was: 'Voulez-vous avoir quelque chose á croquer?' (Would you like something to munch/snack on?)
