Description From Owner:

The name derives from the Maliseet word Panweook, meaning 'opening out land.'
In 1783 the place was show as Pamouyack and on a 1786 land petition as Penunyack. When the post office opened in 1879 the spelling was Peniac; by 1900 the name had changed to Penniac.
