Description From Owner:
  • The name is believed to come from the Micmac Booksadadek, meaning 'narrow passage between rocks,' with reference to Petite Passe.
  • The island first shows up on an 1816 plan as Pocsucdier I., later as Poksudi and then Pouckcoudie I.
  • In 1901 the Geographic Board of Canada approved the name Pokesudi Island; in 1955 the Canadian Board on Geographic Names changed the official name to Pokesudie Island.
  • With permission from 'New Brunswick Place Names' David E. Scott 2009
