Description From Owner:
- Pokiok Brook, Creek, Reach, Settlement and Stream all take their name from Pokiok River, called Pokweok by the Maliseet, meaning 'runs out through narrows.'
- Pokiok Falls was drowned in 1967 when Mactaquac Lake was formed by damming the St. John R.
- The post office opened in 1856 as Poquiock. The name Pokiok was approved in 1970 by the Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names.
