Benjamin Pomeroy was a settler here in 1784 and he was immortalized when the post office opened in 1855.
In 1866 the place was a farming and lumbering community with 37 families including those of John, John Me, Joseph Y. and Peter Pomeroy.
. It also included the community of Clark Point inhabited by the families of Marshall R. and Samuel J. Clark.
