- The place was settled in 1820 by immigrants from Ireland. Prospect Hill, Strawberry Plain and Mount Pleasant are shown in Thomas Hutchinson's 1866 New Brunswick Directory as subdistricts.
- Salmon Beach now includes those places and Glen Anglin. The post office opened in 1861.
- By 1871 it had a population of about 150 including a number of families by the name of Buttimer. It was a flag station on the Caraquet and Gulf Shore Railway.
