New Brunswick Tourism Region : Mirimichi River Valley
Description From Owner:
Sheephouse Brook
- The name came from the Micmac Sewokulook, meaning 'the river of many cliffs.' The name has appeared on maps since 1826 and was officially approved in 1949.
- In 1964 an unsuccessful campaign was mounted to change the name to Mount Kennedy to honour slain U.S. President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963).
- Sheephouse Brook: The brook flows in an easterly direction into South Branch Little Sevogle R. and the descriptive name is derived from the foamy water which swirls around the base of a waterfall and resembles a sheepskin.
- There are generally debunked legends about a hermit who kept a sheep as a companion and of a man named Sheephouse who lived in the area. Little Sheephouse Brook is another tributary.
