Description From Owner:
- The name is Micmac in origin and is from Toodoogoosk or Odoodooguech, for 'squirrel.'
- On a 1685 map the name is shown as R. Toutegouch and in 1831 as Tattigouche and a year later as Tootoogoose or Fairy River.
- By 1896 it had become the Tête à Gauche R. When the post office opened in 1885 the name was Tête à Gouche River and in 1892 the name was changed to Tête à Gauche River.
- The post office here was also Kanes after postmaster Alex F. Kane and for a time it was Milton Brae.
- From 1913 to 1954 it was Imhoff for postmaster Cornelius Imhoff. In 1901 the Geographic Board of Canada confirmed the name as Tetagouche.
