- The place was first called Stymast Settlement after John Stymast who operated the post office from 1885 to 1889.
- In 1928 the name changed to Morrissy, possibly for John Morrissy, MLA. Adjacent Stymiests Mill Brook which flows NE into the Tabusintac R. is named for Benjamin Stymiest who settled here in 1810.
