Description From Owner:
  • The place was settled in 1853 and from 1889 to 1915 the post office was Texas River. The community takes its name from the river which was named for a Micmac called Pier Tax, or Taxous, who lived here.
  • The Micmac word for the river was Wakmulk for 'clear water.' Explorer P. Campbell noted the place in 1793 as Waametick or Tax's River.
  • . In 1947 the Canadian Board on Geographical Names approved Taxis River.
