Description From Owner:
  • In 1765 William Davidson (1740-1790) secured a grant of 40,000 hectares of land on the Miramichi.
  • He founded the local salmon fishery, was contractor of masts for the Royal Navy, a lumber merchant, shipbuilder and a member of the first New Brunswick Assembly.
  • He is buried in the cemetery that forms part of The Enclosure.
  • Much of his grant land now is a provincial park at the junction of the Southwest and Northwest Miramichi Rs. which was acquired, restored, named and donated to New Brunswick in 1949 by Lord Beaverbrook.
