New Brunswick Tourism Region : Southeastern New Brunswick
Description From Owner:
- John Jardine established a shipbuilding business at Rexton in 1823 and locals referred to the place as The Yard.
- In 1842, shipbuilders Holderness and Chelton came here to establish their shipbuilding business and named the place Kingston after the Kingston in Yorkshire, England.
- In 1901 Dr. J. W. Doherty had the place renamed Rexton to avoid confusion with many other Canadian communities of the same name.
