New Brunswick Tourism Region : Acadian Coast
Description From Owner:
Grog Brook
- The community takes its name from the river which was known to the Micmac as Apsetkwechk, meaning 'little river,' with reference to its comparative size to the Restigouche R which it joins 9 km NW of here.
- . The name first appears on a 1786 survey map. The post office opened here in 1852.
- Grog Brook .... In Micmac the brook's name was Etchkaboogootchkl, for 'big rock from which flows a small spring,' and Megwacheboochiche for 'little red brook.'
- The present name was given after a drunk person drowned in the brook during a log drive.
- With permission from 'New Brunswick Place Names' David E. Scott 2009
