  • Seen from the NW, the island resembles a horse lying down. The vivid whiteness is provided by layers of bird droppings.
  • Passamaquoddy the island was called Hugwunswopskook, 'cormorant rock place.' It was shown on maps as early as 1736 as White Horse.
