- The place was settled in 1760 by Acadians who returned after the 1755 expulsion and named their community for Sainte Anne, patroness of the Micmac and mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
- This is the birthplace of New Brunswick's 29th premier, Camille Henri Thériault (1955- ) who was sworn into office in May of 1998 and served until his Liberal party was defeated in June of 1999.
- Boxer Yvon Durelle's Museum is on Main St. Nicknamed 'The Fighting Fisherman,' in 1958 Durell almost beat Archie Moore for the world' s light-heavyweight championship in a fight that was billed as 'The Fight of the Half-century.'
