- In 1784 some 190 Quaker Loyalists from Pennsylvania founded a community they called Bellevue on the Fundy Coast.

- Samuel Fairlamb named this place Belle View in 1783, but other residents preferred Beaver Harbour and petitioned for that name in 1784. In 1893 James Lorimer proposed the name Charlotteport, but this was not accepted.
