- A recently created place name. Grand Bay: In Saint John and Kings Cs. on the St. John R. The Maliseet knew this area as Pekweetaypaykek.
- Grand Bay may be traced to its French translation Grande Baye by which it was known during the French colonial period.
- Westfield: In Kings C. at the S end of Long Reach on the W side of the St. John R., 17 km NW of Saint John. In 1846 the post office name for the place was Mouth of Nerepis and in 1889 it was changed to Westfield Centre.
- The village was incorporated as Westfield in 1966. The province operates a year-round toll-free ferry service between Grand Bay-Westfield on Route 177 and Hardings Point off Route 845 on the Kingston Peninsula.
