- This common Atlantic Canada place name is an Acadian descriptive of an 'indentation or cove in the line of a coast or shore, rounded in form and small in size.'
- The place was settled in 1810. In 1852 the post office opened as Grand Ance and was changed in 1885 to Grande-Anse. It was incorporated as a village in 1968.
- Popes Museum at 184 Acadie St. relates the history of papacy and the role of the Roman Catholic Church in the development of Acadia.
