New Brunswick Tourism Region : Southeastern New Brunswick
Description From Owner:
- The place was first called Butternut Ridge because of the proliferation of those trees in the area. The butternut (Juglans cinera) is a member of the walnut family and bears a delicious, sweet-tasting nut.
- In 1858 the name was officially changed to honour Sir Henry Havelock (1795-1857), a hero of the Crimean War (1853-56) who died in India following the relief of Lucknow in 1857.
- The name change was not particularly popular with local residents who continued to call the place Butternut Ridge for at least the next century.
