- Among a wave of settlers from across the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia was a second-generation New England planter, Benjamin Bennett.
- His grandson, Richard Bedford Bennett (1870-1947) was born at Hopewell Hill and later moved to Calgary where he established a law practice and entered politics.
- Bennett was Canada's 11 th prime minister from 1930 to 1935 and the only prime minister from New Brunswick.
- The Great Depression occurred during his term of office and cars hauled around by horses because there was no money for gasoline were nicknamed 'Bennett Buggies.'
- Following his retirement he lived in England and was created Viscount Bennett of Hopewell and Calgary by King George VI in 1941.
- The Bennett coat of arms shows at the left, a buffalo, indicative of Alberta, and on the right a moose representing New Brunswick.
