- The place was named for the Hon. George Duncan Ludlow (1734-1808) who was first chief justice of NB from 1784-1808.
- Prior to the American Revolution he was a judge of the Supreme Court of New York, master of the rolls and chief superintendent of police on Long Island.
- His brother, Gabriel George Ludlow (1736-1808) was the first mayor of Saint John.
