Description From Owner:
- The Maliseet knew the place as Medoctic, 'the end,' with reference to the portage from Eel River. In 1686 Bishop Jean-Baptiste de La Croix de Chevriéres de Saint-Vallier (1653-1727) visited en route to Port-Royal,
- and wrote that 'Megogtek is the first fort in Acadia.'
- The post office opened here in 1847 as Eel River. In 1855 the name was changed to Canterbury and in 1897 to Meductic.
- The Sabian Symbals Ltd. Factory, well known within the international music community, is located here. Sabian supplies high quality cymbals to musicians in more than 80 countries.
