New Brunswick Tourism Region : Fundy Shore
Description From Owner:
- In 1784 some 190 Quaker Loyalists from Pennsylvania founded a community they called Bellevue on the Fundy Coast. The place now is called Beaver Harbour.
- A lack of fertile soil and a disastrous forest fire forced them to move inland to a plateau they called Penn's Fields and later Pennfield Ridge to honour William Penn II ( 1644-1718) an English Quaker leader and son of Sir William Penn I ( 1621-1670),
- after whom King Charles Il named the State of Pennsylvania.
- This community was first called Prescott's Corners, Pennfield Centre and Pennfield Corner, but has been Pennfield since the post office opened in 1857.
- Tierney Point Winery at Hawkins Farms is just outside town at 69 Route 785 and offers blueberry, cranberry and strawberry rhubarb wines.
