New Brunswick Tourism Region : Acadian Coast
Description From Owner:
- The community name is taken from the river name which derives from the Micmac Pocomooch or Pocomoochpetooaak, 'salt water extending inward,' describing the lake-like mouth of the Pokemouch R.
- It is first shown on a map in 1686 as Pakmouch and on subsequent maps as Poquemouche, Pokemushi and Pockmouche.
- . From 1845 to 1854 the post office name was Pokemouche, but in 1854 the name was changed to Pockmouche. In 1900 the name was changed again to its previous, and current form.
