Description From Owner:
  • The place was named by the European and North American Railway in 1857 by the coined descriptive formed by joining the Maliseet Quispam for 'lake,' with sis for 'little.'
  • The lake is Ritchie's Lake which is little in comparison to others in the area. Before the railway came the place had been known as Wetmore's, Gondola Point Road and Lakefield.
  • The post office opened in 1885. Quispamsis now includes the communities of Otty Glen, Blairs, Meehans, Meenans Corner, Model Farm, Ritchie Lake, Stoneycroft and Wells.
  • Hammond River No. 3 (Smithtown) covered bridge, built in 1914, is on Route 100.
