- Richibucto town, Cape, Harbour, Parish and Village all take their name from the river which the Micmac called Elsedabooktook or Lichibouktouck, translated as 'the river that enters the woods.'
- In the 1646 Jesuit Relations it is shown as la Baye de Regibouctou and on a 1755 map as Richibucto.
- In 1826 when it was chosen as the shire town of Kent C., it was named Liverpool. That name changed to Richibucto in 1832. The post office opened here in 1844.
- Birthplace of Pierre John Veniot ( 1863-1936) who was the first Acadian premier and served from 1923 to 1925.
- Veniot was minister of public works during the administration of Premier Walter Foster and acquired the nickname 'Good Roads Veniot' while he developed a modern highway system in New Brunswick long before most other provinces.
